5 Cities – 5 themes

Theme1 London; Social Enterprise

Social Enterpreneurship is the key theme of London, Capture Projects and the London Borough of Lewisham, who think that in a post-Welfare State society we need new enterprises concerned with social good if we are to help design a the future that we wish to live in. It is a huge community centre, with over one hundred groups from the Green Party to Clown school, running innovative activities there. Pula thinks that Participatory Governance is the process whereby we create new democratic practices, especially through NGOs. More on Participatory Governance

London Launch of beta Toolbox

Place Ladywell – Lewisham

Friday June 2nd 2017 sees the public launch of the beta version of the Toolbox, which is a resource box people who want to create a new economy out of abandoned spaces. It is being held in the new public space of Place Ladywell opened by the London Borough of Lewisham during the life of the Origin of Spaces project. Featuring a CoWorking Space, a social enterprise cafe (Cafe of Good Hope) and Rushey Green Timebank run by the redoubtable Philippe Grainger, the event at Place Ladywell will allow the public to play with the Toolbox for the first time. We hope it will become a resource to support people and community-based innovation based on the examples of our partners.

Welcome to The Toolbox and intro video

The Five Themes of the toolbox each have a section pulling together a set of resources to help people understand a little more about each of these topics and perhaps giving them fresh ideas of how to become involved in that area… The Themes are Social Enterprise, Participatory Governance, Ecological Transitions, Local Partnerships and Multidisciplinary CoWorking. Watch the intro films first to find what interests you most and help us Build the Society that Pleases You Most

#oosEU Script for video introduction

Revised possible script for #oosEU Animate

#oosEU; Our planet is full of beautiful surprises, as well as the unintended consequences of human behaviours.
Whether this saddens or pleases you, some of us in Europe think we can co-create the world afresh through new skills and capabilities we can develop and share
Like…
Mutuality, enterprise and CoWorking, through friendships and partnerships, through socialising and enabling transitions to a socially just and ecologically-balanced world where we can live the life we choose to design together…

Imagine a building (ROJC) where creative energy can be inhaled from fellow artists / fellow activists. / NGOs… In an occupied (Austro-Hungarian) Naval Academy, inspiring the rebuilding of our town Pula based on participatory governance

We can make it a “factory full of ideas and creativity”  like LX Factory where heritage lives alongside tech in Lisboa and creative start-ups can evolve into working and living communities like CoWorkLisboa connecting people through MultiDisciplinary CoWorking

Some of us can green our workplaces, rebalance the environment and, by building sustainable Tiers Lieux, magical Third Places like Darwin in Bordeaux, can help create vital ecological transitions to our shared future…

That involve our local communities, like ZAWP in Bilbao  moving from random interventions to a Coherent Process where we live, challenging the council and, inspired by just one train drivers dream, create new local partnerships

Some of us can take responsibility, become social entrepreneurs with the self-confidence to believe in risking-taking, learning from our mistakes, develop the confidence and determation to become social entrepreneurs  as Capture Projects show in London

#oosEU Together we can build the world we want to live in; use our Toolbox and help us.

What is an RSA Animate?

Video animations of Ideas, Reports and Presentations

RSA Animates are video animations of talks given at the RSA (the Royal Society of Arts – of which I am a Fellow) by notable people. They are a kind of visual minutes for people who missed the talk. They have been found to both clarify the talk and usefully summarise quite complex subjects for people coming across new ideas for the first time.

Possibly the most famous one is by Ken Robinson (author of the most watched TED talk ever “Do Schools Kill Creativity”) called Changing Education Paradigms

Other approaches… Have been identified by Creative Connections in their Social Animations proposal.

Welcome to Log

Toolbox Development Partners

Welcome; We’d like to wish a warm welcome to log in Lisboa, who have won the contract to build the Origin of Spaces Toolbox. At the moment we are dealing with Tiago Jacob, their Scrum Master. Scrum is an Agile development methodology which we think will be very useful in developing the Toolbox.

WordPress; Because a number of Spacers (#oosEU) have experience with WordPress we decided to go for a WordPress based solution as potentially we could call on expertise with the Origin of Spaces group.

log; Have great expertise in WordPress, Scrum combined with a focus on UX (User Experience). As we aren’t providing support for users of the Toolbox UX could be the critical factor in user takeup of the Toolbox.

More on log; Can be found on their log website or contact them at log@log.pt.

Questions; Any questions for log, or about the development process of the Toolbox, can be posted here.
